To get myself writing and to sustain the effort and hopefully complete a story I am going to experiment with a new way of writing ... something more like the way I used to when I was a child. In a sense the method will be as important, if not more important, than what I write. Both the method and the story will be an adventure - both are an experiment.
My writing has become corrupted by adult life and I especially a life spent doing and managing information technology that has caused me to manage, plan and rationalise far too much. So that I don't slip into the ways of writing that got me bogged down I am going to stick by some simple "rules of engagement" or lets call them a simple guide - here they are:
1. Don't think about the story except when I am actually writing the story.
2. Don't worry about consistency .... the story unfolds as it goes along, everything and anything can change - don't worry about it.
3. Don't worry about accurancy or rationality - its a story, its a work of pure imagination -and "whatever will be will be"
4. Don't change anything already written ... don't edit ... its what it is ... don't worry about consistency or accuracy.
5. Don't worry about structure and things like spelling and grammar - if it doesnt have chapters and so on that doesn't matter just write it and don't get hung up on formalities .. as long as its writable and readable that's all that matters.
6. Enjoy it ... only write when you want to. This is a pleasure not a labour (even a labour of love) don't get into having to write and having to write a certain amount. Don't project manage it in anyway ... if it takes a lifetime (or what's left of it) then so be it. this is a pleasure
